Sources of information and diagnosis of childhood cancer

Every year, an estimated 30,000 children and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean are diagnosed with cancer, and almost 10,000 lose their lives to the disease. Information Products and Services constant monitored

The leadership and technical and project teams meet periodically to share prioritized developments. Team success was the theme of BIREME’s end-of-year meeting

To recognize the results achieved in 2024, BIREME held an activity to develop its staff, focusing on building successful teams, psychological safety, and effective communication practices. The event included interactive activities and role-playing, combined with educational and reflective content, involving all staff.

WHO Traditional Medicine Global Library: a new stage of development

The first functional version of TMGL was delivered in November, representing a milestone in the global management of information on traditional medicine. Under BIREME’s coordination, and in just three months of production, more than 1.7 million records and innovative resources have been consolidated on the online platform. The next phase aims to launch an advanced preliminary version of the library, scheduled for April 2025, with expanded access for the general public.

BIREME and the Ministry of Health Library that celebrates 71 years

The Library of the Ministry of Health celebrated its 71st anniversary with a special ceremony in Brasilia, Brazil, recognizing professionals and partners who have contributed to its historic trajectory, including BIREME. The event reaffirmed its commitment to disseminating public health knowledge.

RIPSA portal: advances were presented at the 31st Inter-Agency Workshop

During the 31st RIPSA Workshop, held on December 5 and 6 in Brasilia, BIREME presented the new qualification records portal. The initiative highlights technological integration and the commitment to standardizing information, strengthening the network’s position as a reference in public health indicators.

LILACS announces journal profiles in 2024

The “Profile of LILACS journals 2024” was presented on December 5 during a webinar with the participation of editors, members of editorial teams and survey respondents. The results provide a detailed overview of editorial practices, access policies, linguistic diversity and other characteristics of the journals. The study offers a strategic guide for strengthening editorial quality and scientific visibility in Latin America and the Caribbean. Check out the highlights.

Indigenous Health with BIREME and SESAI: new alignments and priority actions

SESAI/MS and BIREME/PAHO/WHO are making progress in strengthening indigenous health in Brazil, with technical meetings held in September and October 2024 to review and monitor actions and priorities. The cooperation project’s activities include dialogue with users and leaders from indigenous territories to review information needs and to make contributions and suggestions for the Portal of the Indigenous Peoples VHL.
