Advances and innovations outline BIREME in 2024

BIREME achieved results with advances aligned with Strategy 2023-2025 and contextualized in its Biannual Work Plan for 2024-2025 aligned with PAHO/WHO priorities and strategic objectives. The main milestones of the period include new projects, information products and services, events and management and operational activities for institutional strengthening.

Valuing Human Capital and engagement

On the main achievements of BIREME in 2024 in the context of its 2024-2025 BWP with its 23-25 digital transformation Strategy, the VHL, LILACS, DeCS Finder AI, TMGL among others. The progress made in the implementation of its technical cooperation program demonstrates the Centre’s commitment to supporting the countries of the Region in the use of technical and scientific information for health decision-making.

Implementation of Agile Culture with scrum

BIREME continues to implement Agile Culture in its products, prioritizing flexibility, collaboration and efficiency in software development, with short cycles, effective and constant communication, continuous feedback and incremental delivery of products. The Scrum framework being used organizes the entire process through defined and shared activities and functions, promoting the continuous delivery of value and improvements in development in harmony with internal and external stakeholders, especially institutional supporters. This action will be included in the PAHO Forward initiative as good organizational practice.

SMS-SP VHL: results and prospects

The SMS-SP VHL achieved significant results in 2024, consolidating itself as a benchmark in the management and dissemination of information and knowledge in public health. With the creation of new content, the portal updated regularly, the production and availability of new Experience Reports and the strengthening of the Windows of Knowledge, in 2025 the project will rely on more training activities and expanded access to scientific and technical information, reaffirming its strategic role.

Health information VHL networks and webinars 2024

The 2024 webinar program was also a milestone in the exchange of information, knowledge and good practices in health in Latin America and the Caribbean. With 23 thematic sessions spread across four main axes, the initiative saw the participation of 29 speakers and more than 2,297 connections from 18 countries, reinforcing BIREME’s commitment to strengthening health information networks in the region.
