The selection and permanence criteria of LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature) journals, effective from October 29, 2020, were launched during the celebration of LILACS ’35 years and aim to consolidate the selection criteria LILACS Brazil and LILACS Nursing and meet preparations for the Open Science in journals indexed in LILACS.
The new version of the criteria was motivated by changes in the scientific communication scenario, the final recommendations of the Meeting of Scientific Editors that took place during CRICS10, the recommendations of the members of the LILACS Brazil Committee, the Webinars of “Good practices in the editorial processes of scientific journals of LILACS ”and the process of reassessing the permanence of indexed journals.
The process of updating the criteria document took place in two public consultations held in 2019 and 2020, which involved 31 participants from different countries in the region, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Honduras and others.
The first part of the document is dedicated to clarifying and ratifying the roles of all actors within the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Information System, which include institutions and professionals working in the edition of scientific journals, national and national coordinators. thematic areas of the LILACS network and the cooperating centers.
The second part, which deals specifically with the selection criteria, is divided into automatic admission in which journals indexed in MEDLINE and SciELO Health and Public Health collections are accepted and that carried out by LILACS coordinators through their committees.
