The 10th edition of the Regional Congress on Health Sciences Information (CRICS10) and the 7th edition of the Virtual Health Library Coordination Meeting (VHL7) will be held in São Paulo on December 4-6, 2018. Approximately 500 (five hundred) participants are expected to attend the event. They are from organizations working in network with BIREME/PAHO/WHO in the development of projects, products, and services that contribute for access to scientific and technical information in health in Latin American and Caribbean (LA&C) countries, besides other regions.
The Congress’ central topic is “Advancing towards the 2030 Agenda: contributions of evidence and knowledge”, with the following main thematic axes: (1) Digital Innovation and Health; (2) Information Management; (3) Knowledge Management; (4) Evidence-informed Policies, Strategies, and Decisions; (5) Intersectoriality; (6) Scientific Research and Communication; and (7) Open Science.
CRICS10 will be organized with the support of the following Committees, which will have specialists representing the institutions networking with BIREME:
Honor Committee – The Congress Honor Committee gathers personalities, national and international organizations chosen in common agreement between BIREME and the institution coordinating the National Organizing Committee. This Committee comprises the Director and Deputy Director of PAHO/WHO, Brazilian authorities, former BIREME directors, and others.
International Organizing Committee – BIREME chairs and coordinates the International Organizing Committee, whose main function is to promote the Congress worldwide and provide the conditions to facilitate the participation of the different countries and regions. The leading institution in each country participates in the International Organizing Committee.
National Organizing Committee – It has the role of approving the Congress program, supporting the mobilization of resources, tracking implementation, and promoting the participation of representatives from national organizations in the Congress. It is coordinated by an organization of the host country and has the operational support of the Executive Secretariat and working groups from the different thematic axes.
Scientific Committee – The Scientific Committee comprises specialists in scientific information and communication management in LA&C and is responsible for designing the Congress scientific program, which includes the definition of thematic axes and subtopics, and the identification of specialists or professionals with exceptional experience to be speakers in the Congress.
According to Diego Gonzalez, BIREME Director and Chairman of CRICS10, “this meeting will be an opportunity to bring together not only our cooperating Network, but also users from different sectors connected to information and knowledge management related to the topics of the 2030 Agenda. It will also be a space to reaffirm our commitment with the Sustainable Development Agenda of Latin America and the Caribbean, launched in September 2017 at the 53rd PAHO/WHO Directing Council “.

The Regional Congress on Health Sciences Information (CRICS) is one of the most important and consolidated forums in scientific and technical information. It is a space for discussing relevant issues on the production and access to information in Public Health in the Americas, and it is organized in thematic axes. The series started in 1992 and since then the event has already been held in Brazil, Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the United States. CRICS was born as an innovative event in the fields of scientific information and communication, knowledge management, information methodologies and technologies, and their application for the progress of health research, education, and healthcare systems.
