On June 18th, the opening table of the 1st Interdisciplinary International Congress on Public Health Policies was held in search of full citizenship through the universality of health (CINPSUS). The event, which included the participation of the Director of BIREME, Diego González – who at the time also spoke on behalf of Socorro Gross, PAHO/WHO representative in Brazil – took place virtually and had as its central objective the creation of a space for reflection, discussion, exchange and construction of technical-scientific knowledge through the sharing of research, experiences, and proposals for the strengthening of social justice. It took into account issues relating to Public Health Systems in Brazil, Spain, Italy, Mexico, and Portugal.
Present at the Opening Panel, Diego González recognized the efforts made by the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Health, Education, and Physical Education – GIPEEF, of the Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco, responsible for promoting the event, and recognized Ramon Missias-Moreira, Coordinator-General of the Congress, for the meticulous work developed with 10 other universities in Brazil, Spain, Italy, Mexico, and Portugal.
González also stated that “for public health policies to be developed effectively, permanent support for information and evidence is required, an objective in line with BIREME’s mission”. At this time, Diego presented the three main products developed by BIREME, “which provide great information support for decision-making in health”: the VHL – Virtual Health Library, LILACS – Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and DeCS – Descriptors in Health Sciences.
The Director of BIREME also presented BIREME products specifically related to the theme of the Congress, such as the PIE – Evidence-Based Policies, a collection of documents that contribute to decision-making processes and policies based on the best available scientific evidence, including processes of knowledge translation and of exchange between managers and representatives of civil society in the management of health services and systems. And EVID@Easy, an evidence-based search tool in the VHL that aims to facilitate decision-making in health informed by scientific evidence, in a process that includes search, selection, evaluation, and integration of the best available evidence for certain conditions and contexts in the health area.
