BIREME/PAHO/WHO has an IT infrastructure that meets the demands of technical cooperation, providing a server park installed in a datacenter located a few kilometers from its physical facilities and with direct access to the international Internet via rednesp (Research and Education Network of São Paulo). There are around 300 instances of technical cooperation hosted on these servers and that have an internal and external monitoring system, aiming to ensure their high availability.
Furthermore, there is a backup system that is periodically revised and improved, helping to minimize impacts in case of incidents. Another important point is information security and, in this context, BIREME/PAHO/WHO has been developing a set of good practices to guide the implementation and updating of systems used in the technical cooperation.
Since 2005, when BIREME started using the datacenter facilities, the equipment was located in that same cage whose infrastructure has limitations for its growth. Thus, in coordination with rednesp, the equipment was moved to a more modern cage in terms of infrastructure and that will allow scalability to meet the growing demands of the technical cooperation.
This activity was led by the IT Infrastructure in coordination with all BIREME management, from planning to execution and final availability in the new facility, with an effective and positive result for the Center. Specifically on May 19, 20, 2023 and June 1, 2023, the IT team was on duty in the datacenter performing physical movement activities of servers and network infrastructure equipment, without recording any incidents.
