e-BlueInfo Honduras: accessibility to health information

On July 12, 2024, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the Honduran Secretariat of Health (SESAL) held the launch event for e-BlueInfo Honduras, an application to improve access to regulatory information for the country’s health professionals. The event was held in a hybrid format and was attended by around 120 participants, including authorities gathered at PAHO Honduras headquarters and others connected remotely.

The opening session was attended by Brian Erazo, Undersecretary for Health Regulation, who welcomed those present and emphasized the importance of the new tool for strengthening the Honduran health system. Patricia Hernández, Executive Director of Technology Management at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), then highlighted the crucial role of technology in health management and how e-BlueInfo will facilitate access to essential information for health professionals.

João Paulo Souza, Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME/PAHO/WHO), stressed the collaboration between health institutions and the importance of disseminating quality information for informed decision-making. Amalia Ayala, Acting PAHO/WHO Representative in Honduras, reaffirmed the Organization’s commitment to improving health services in the country and praised the e-BlueInfo initiative.

The highlight of the event was the official launch of e-BlueInfo, led by Carla Paredes, Secretary of State for Health, who highlighted the benefits of the tool, facilitating access to up-to-date and relevant information for health professionals. Ovidio Padilla, Technology Coordinator at the National Medical Library of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNAH, presented the application’s functionalities, demonstrating how the platform can be used efficiently in the daily lives of health professionals.

The event concluded with an open space for comments and questions from the participants, followed by the official closing. The launch of e-BlueInfo Honduras represents a significant advance in the accessibility of normative health information in the country. This tool promises to be an accessible resource for professionals in the field, promoting evidence-based practice and contributing to the improvement of health services in Honduras.
