BIREME presents DeCS Finder AI, a new feature developed to improve the user experience when indexing the subject of scientific texts in health. The tool uses a natural language processing model, trained by the BIREME team, to carry out textual analysis and identify the most suitable DeCS descriptors to represent scientific articles, abstracts and full texts.
According to Luciana Beatriz Piovezan Rio Branco, librarian at BIREME’s Digital Solutions and Emerging Technologies team, and responsible for coordinating and presenting the functionality, DeCS Finder AI was designed to meet the LILACS indexing methodology and allows texts in different languages to be processed, offering fast and accurate results. “With this tool, users can save time in processing and discover relevant descriptors that they might not have known about. This is especially useful for information professionals and authors who want to optimize the representation of their scientific work,” she said.
DeCS Finder AI reflects the ongoing evolution of BIREME’s services, continuing the work begun with the launch of DeCS Finder in February 2021. The previous and first version already highlighted BIREME’s commitment to innovative solutions for indexing texts and now, with the incorporation of artificial intelligence, this functionality reaches new heights of efficiency and accuracy. Check out the video at the bottom of the page for more details.
Besides facilitating semi-automatic indexing, DeCS Finder AI allows results to be exported in files compatible with submissions to databases or journals. The tool is now available on the DeCS website and can be accessed with simple and advanced search options; check out the technical features in the image.
