BIREME/PAHO/WHO continues to mobilize efforts to transform the way it implements its technical cooperation projects, consolidating an agile culture to drive even more efficient deliveries and strengthen the management skills of the teams that have in fact led a remarkable journey of evolution, developing essential skills both in product and project management and in interpersonal relationships, with concrete repercussions on the projects prioritized by its strategic management.
Focus was a central principle of the agile culture that effectively emerged. Guided by the strategic management guidelines, critical products and services were prioritized, promoting an intelligent allocation of resources and strengthening organizational management. This focus boosted the quality of deliveries and aligned the entire organization around the initiatives with the greatest potential impact, creating a solid basis for assertive decision-making at different levels.
Once the initial challenges had been overcome, a transformation emerged in the way Products/Services and Projects began to integrate. This new collaborative dynamic has generated an environment of greater fluidity, in which value has been delivered continuously, risks mitigated in a more agile way and rework reduced. The connection between areas is noticeable at operational, tactical and strategic levels, showing maturity in management and in understanding workflows, including those in line with organizational procedures and standards.
The positive impacts have been reflected in deliveries and in strengthening the mobilization and management of human, financial, and technological resources, and in new project opportunities. More than just numbers, we have consolidated renewed trust with institutional supporters, paving the way for new cycles of agile evolution, in which adaptability, continuous delivery of value and strategic vision continue to be the main guides for this implementation, which involves strengthening and changing the organizational culture in order to effectively implement the mission of BIREME/PAHO/WHO for the countries of the Region.
Regarding the leadership of this institutional initiative, BIREME Director João Paulo Souza emphasized: “I believe that digital transformation only becomes a reality when digital innovation goes hand in hand with cultural transformation. The institutionalization of agile culture at BIREME reflects this understanding and has been led by our project management team, which operates within the Project Management Office (PMO) with excellence and commitment. They are the ones driving, with courage and consistency, the organizational change needed to expand the impact of our mission across the countries of the Region.”
