Held in Juazeiro, Bahia/Brazil, an innovative technical-scientific event in the country welcomed for the first time the participation of BIREME with the mini-course “Understanding, Accessing, and Using DeCS – Health Sciences Descriptors.” Gathering 700 participants from all over the country, the congress addressed the urgent need to integrate the Brazilian Sign Language into society. The resource provides direct access to over a hundred technical documents on Health Promotion published since 2010 in the countries of the Region. The platform was developed and released by BIREME in partnership with the Department of Social and Environmental Determinants for for Health Equity.

Check out the results achieved by BIREME in the context of Cooperation Term TC93 (Part I). Developed in coordination with the Ministry of Health of Brazil and PAHO/WHO, the information and knowledge management carried out by BIREME impacts the entire health network of publication, organization, access, and use of scientific and technical information, facilitating the use of evidence in clinical decision-making and management processes. The reports also highlight the regional reach of the Center’s activities, with replicable and reusable activities, products, and services at the local, national, and regional levels.

In Part II, check out the results achieved by BIREME in the context of Cooperation Term TC95. Developed in coordination with the Ministry of Health of Brazil and PAHO/WHO, the information and knowledge management carried out by BIREME impacts the entire health network of publication, organization, access, and use of scientific and technical information, facilitating the use of evidence in clinical decision-making and management processes. The report also highlights the Center’s activities outreach, with replicable and usable activities, products, and services at the local, national, and regional levels.

Meetings focused on products and services for the “One Health” approach, as well as information and communication tools with applications in machine learning and automation. Technical visits included the National Center for Medical Sciences Information (INFOMED), the Medical Sciences Publisher (ECIMED), the National Medical Library, and the National Clinical Trials Center affiliated with Cochrane.

In an event held on October 2 and 3 in São Paulo, BIREME, EIH, and PAHO’s Representative Office in Brazil highlighted the new capabilities of technical and scientific information in health, the challenges, and the benefits of its application in guiding care practices, clinical decision-making, and public policy management. In September, BIREME participated in three technical and scientific events held in different regions of Brazil. Highlights included health information products and services that strengthen the health system and foster evidence-based decision-making. Check out the contributions made in the major themes of Open Science, Non-Infectious Diseases and Health Research.

In a call to society and governments, PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) urges countries to address the promotion of care as an essential aspect of human rights and social responsibility. A regional event in Colombia highlighted, among other topics, the burden on women in the social organization of care and the role of local governments in ensuring the implementation and access to healthcare policies.

Session took place on 23 August and was attended by members representing five Latin American and Caribbean countries: Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago. The meeting’s agenda focused on the presentation of BIREME’s new institutional strategy for members’ approval and recommendations. Check out the details in the article.

Held in India on August 17 and 18, the event brought together policymakers, researchers, healthcare providers and civil society to discuss strengthening the evidence base for traditional medicines. The aim is to encourage the integration of proven beneficial interventions into health systems, allowing countries to implement quality control and monitoring policies for T&CM practices, professionals and products.
