The second meeting of the G20 Initiative on the Bioeconomy was held in Brasilia from May 7 to 9, 2024, dedicated to the themes of science, technology and innovation, the sustainable use of biodiversity and the role of the bioeconomy for sustainable development. Check out the World Health Organization’s participation in the meeting, which contributed with a health perspective for the bioeconomy, reaffirming the importance of traditional knowledge and traditional health practices for the promotion of health and well-being for all.

Held at the PAHO headquarters in Brasília, the event established a new work plan for technical cooperation aimed at enhancing the visibility of Brazil’s actions, policies, strategies, research, and projects concerning Indigenous Health.

The new Second Formative Opinion project was presented during the XI Brazilian Telemedicine and Telehealth Congress in Goiânia. The application of new technologies to teleconsulting seeks to improve decision-making for action in health. The reactivation of the online portal marks a significant milestone in the resumption of the Health Information Network (Ripsa) activities, ongoing since 2022. BIREME presented the new portal during the Interagency Workshop with the Network members, held at the PAHO headquarters in Brasília. This initiative is part of the technical cooperation with the Department of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Dissemination of Strategic Health Information, within the Ministry of Health’s Secretariat for Information and Digital Health (DEMAS/SEIDIGI/MS).

From March 19 to 22, 2024, the World Health Organization convened experts and technicians in India to plan the activities of the Global Center for Traditional Medicine. The future Global Library will be developed based on the experience gained with the model of Virtual Health Libraries (VHL), in particular the VHL on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicines developed by BIREME in collaboration with the Regional Network on TCIM for the Americas. The launch of the new library is planned for 2025.

In March 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) gathered experts and technicians in India to plan the activities of its new Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC). To be launched in 2025, a new Global Library will be developed by BIREME based on the experience gained with the Virtual Health Library on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine and the TCIM Americas Network. BIREME and CGDI validate the results achieved and discuss joint perspectives in the context of Technical Cooperation Agreement 95 with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health of Brazil.

During the month of its 26th anniversary, the VHL Regional Portal launched a new version with an updated interface and layout. Developed by BIREME, the website provides access to a collection of more than 37 million bibliographic records from 60 databases, directories, repositories, and other sources of health information.

New online portal provides and integrates three of the most important clinical and public health decision support services based on WHO and PAHO guidelines and recommendations. Searches on the site retrieve information from a collection of more than 5,000 evidence guides developed by the GRADE system for grading the quality of evidence and strength of recommendations for health decision-making.

For the fifth consecutive year, BIREME promotes an annual calendar of meetings and activities of the Virtual Health Library for the Strengthening of Health Information Networks in LA&C 2024. This year, 19 meetings will address topics related to the VHL Network, the Referees Network, Indexing of documents according to the LILACS Methodology and Good practices in the editorial processes of LILACS scientific journals.
