Knowledge Management in Human Resources in Health

Together with the PAHO Brazil Technical Unit for Human Resources in Health, BIREME develops a project to promote knowledge management in Human Resources in Health. Its primary goal is to contribute to establishing a new agenda for the development of Human Resources in health in the region, by means of identification and analysis of scientific and technical output on this topic. A website will be published to register, access and retrieve the literature through a search interface integrated with health-related bibliographic databases.

The 203O Agenda and the role of librarians

The 2030 Agenda and the role played by librarians was the central theme of the 27th Brazilian Congress of Library and Information Science (CBBD), which took place in Fortaleza/CE, Brazil, in October 17-20, 2017. The event was an ideal platform to show the 2030 Agenda of the Americas (ASSA2030) which was approved at the 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference, which took place in Washington, DC, USA, in September 25-29, 2017.

BIREME is part of the 10-year history of the Programa Telessaúde Brasil

“To provide broad access to a network of sources of information on good evidence in primary healthcare in order to subsidize the processes of clinical decision, training, and management in this area.” This guideline is one of the pillars defining the Programa Telessaúde Brasil, which completes 10 years in 2017 and in which BIREME has contributed with the development of one of its components, the Virtual Health Library on Primary Health Care (BVS Atenção Primaria a Saúde).

BIREME celebrates 50 years

The Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME/PAHO/WHO) celebrated in 2017 50 years of work to democratize information, knowledge, and scientific evidence. For this important celebration, the Center held an event in its facilities on October 6th with the presence of PAHO/WHO Deputy Director, Isabella Danel, as well as former directors, staff professionals, and representatives from several agencies at the federal, state, and municipal level, in the fields of health, environment, education, human rights, and others.

PAHO/WHO Deputy Director visits BIREME

The Deputy Director of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), Isabella Danel, visited the new facilities of the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME/PAHO/WHO) in the scope of the activities conducted to celebrate BIREME’s 50 years in 2017. Dr. Danel was presented the leading actions performed by BIREME in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region, as well as the potentialities, products and services of the Center.

PAHO/WHO and its joint action with the Secretary of Health of the Municipality of São Paulo

During the visit of the Deputy Director of the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), Isabella Danel, on behalf of the 50th Anniversary of BIREME/PAHO/WHO, the Secretary of Health of the Municipality of São Paulo and PAHO Brazil organized a series of activities, including a visit to a city hospital and the launch of an app for the Programa Mais Médicos.

In order to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its foundation, BIREME has undertaken actions and launched several products aimed at recovering the historical trajectory of the Center and its institutional partners, as well as reporting on the development and evolution of its main information products and services in Health Sciences. 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference

The 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference, held at PAHO/WHO Headquarters in Washington, DC, on September 25-29, 2017, which brought together the Ministers of Health of the Americas to discuss regional health priorities, culminated after a week of discussions with the adoption of a new health agenda for the Americas and a series of strategies and action plans to address the health challenges of the coming years. The Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME) was on the agenda with two main themes: (1) institutional development situation; and (2) replacement of the member countries of its Advisory Committee.
