TA6/TC95 is oriented towards Improving the Management of the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Health of Brazil, and relies on the participation of the Technical Areas of PAHO/ WHO Brazil and of BIREME/PAHO/WHO, which cooperates specifically with results related to the management of scientific and technical health information and communication. Meetings are periodically held to communicate results obtained in the subprojects that make up the Term of Cooperation in force and to align expectations of new developments, such as the one that took place on October 2nd, which was attended by the Deputy Secretary for Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of Health.

Launching of the new DeCS/MeSH website
BIREME launched the new Health Science Descriptors (DeCS in its Portuguese acronym) website on September 18, during a web conference attended by 390 people from 28 countries in the Americas and Europe regions. For 34 years, DeCS has played a fundamental role in the management and access to information and knowledge in Health Sciences. Produced by BIREME/PAHO/WHO, it is a controlled vocabulary organized hierarchically and derived from the thesaurus Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) , produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
Scholarly communication was the theme of two VHL and BiblioSUS Network webinars
The series of six webinars coordinated by PAHO / WHO through PAHO Brazil, Ministry of Health and BIREME aims at strengthening health information networks, articulate and promote cooperation and participation of the VHL and BiblioSUS Networks. The last two webinars dealt with scholarly communication topics in the context of the VHL information sources: “Scientific information on COVID-19: the role of preprints” and “Ethics in scientific publishing”.
Window of Knowledge highlights nursing workforce in Latin America and the Caribbean
On September 22, a Window of Knowledge was launched in the context of the VHL Nursing work. In a virtual session for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Window of Knowledge Nursing Workforce in Latin America and the Caribbean was launched, which took place within the framework of Florence Nightingale’s bicentenary and the celebration of the International Year of Nursing, which aims at highlighting and systematizing the scientific output on the nursing workforce in the Region.
BIREME holds an Ad Hoc Session online for new members of the Scientific Committee
On August 28, BIREME held an online Ad Hoc Session to welcome the new members of its Scientific Committee, which together with the Advisory Committee, make up the Center’s Governance Committees, as established in the Statute of its institutional framework. The specific objectives of the session were to welcome the new members of the Committee; report on the current state of implementation of the main recommendations of previous members; strengthen BIREME’s institutional framework with countries in the region; obtain recommendations for the visibility of your products and services; and support your financial sustainability.
The development of a product with regional governance: e-BlueInfo
BIREME/PAHO/WHO coordinated the 1st Meeting of the e-BlueInfo Regional Steering Committee on August 26, 2020, which was attended by representatives of Brazil, El Salvador, Guatemala and Peru, as members of the Committee, and from Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay, invited observers for being in the process of adopting e-BlueInfo in their countries.
DeCS 2020 is available online
The most recent version of the Health Sciences Descriptors/Medical Subject Headings (DeCS/MeSH) was made available for consultation in June this year. The main novelties are the revision of the hierarchical branch of MeSH concepts related to infections (now better combined in subcategory C01 of category C of Diseases) and the beginning of the review of the hierarchical structure of the exclusive categories of DeCS.
Webinar 3: The Network’s role as a disseminator and intermediary of health scientific knowledge
Another successful event in the series of webinars to strengthen the Health Information Networks – BiblioSUS and VHL Brazil -, took place on August 27 and was attended by 90 participants. There were three presentations that highlighted different points of view and experiences on the theme: “The Network’s role as a disseminator and intermediary of health scientific knowledge“.
Training activities to the LILACS Network during COVID-19
From March to July 2020, besides the coordination meetings of the LILACS network, technical notes and calls to the network for cooperation with publications on COVID-19, meetings and training took place in virtual mode on the network. 23 virtual sessions were held on editorial processes of LILACS journals (5); on indexing of documents according to the LILACS Methodology (5); and on VHL information sources (7) for the Latin American network and 6 for the Brazilian network.
Revista Argentina de Salud Pública launches a special supplement on Covid-19
Revista Argentina de Salud Pública is a publication of the Ministerio de Salud de la Nación and has just announced the launching of a special supplement on Covid-19, which aims to disseminate scientific evidence and quality research results, fighting infodemia. Moreover, during the announcement, the journal Editorial Committee communicated important improvements in editorial management to provide it with the necessary agility to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
