BIREME supports FI-Admin training for Jamaica and Guyana

In the context of the BIREME/PAHO/WHO technical cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean in the management of technical and scientific information in health and following the actions to move forward with the initiative of the Caribbean Virtual Health Library (VHL), there were, in early November, training on how to use the FI-Admin tool, developed by BIREME, to enter data into the MedCarib database.

The training that took place on November 8th and 10th had at the opening, remarks by Dr. João Paulo Souza, Director of BIREME, who highlighted the importance of networking, helping to increase the visibility of documents produced in and about the English-speaking Caribbean countries, led by Marcia Barretto, IT infrastructure coordinator (ITI/GA) of BIREME.

Six members of Jamaica (from the Ministry of Health and the National Library of Jamaica), members of the MedCarib Network, participated. This training was coordinated by Victoria Cruickshank-Taylor from CARPHA (Caribbean Public Health Agency), current regional coordinator of the MedCarib network, and is in line with the mission of PAHO/WHO and the Department of EIH (Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health) to provide evidence and quality information in health.

In the previous week, nine members from Guyana (from the University and the PAHO/WHO Country Office in Guyana) were trained by Ayaana Alleyne-Cumberbatch, from the Library of Medical Sciences at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, who has been leading training in the Caribbean region over the past two years. This training was also supported by BIREME/PAHO/WHO specifically in preparing the infrastructure for access to the FI-Admin tool training environment.
