BIREME and VHL were featured at ACURIL 2023 conference

Hosted in June, in Jamaica, the Annual Conference of the Association of University, Research and Institutional Libraries of the Caribbean was attended by BIREME with a focus on sustainability and innovation in libraries, museums and archives.

The reactivation of the RIPSA Project

In partnership with PAHO and BIREME, the RIPSA Project is reactivated by the Ministry of Health to produce and make available health information to support the formulation, management and evaluation of public policies. New phase includes updates and product launches, including new platform for Indicator Qualification Sheets. The objective is to facilitate access to relevant information and support decisions by managers.

Datacenter is restructured with positive effects for BIREME and its users

BIREME/PAHO/WHO carried out a significant restructuring of its Datacenter, ensuring high availability and security for approximately 300 instances of technical cooperation. With the move to a modern infrastructure, BIREME is prepared to meet the growing demands of technical cooperation. World Drowning Prevention Day: Anyone can drown, but no one should

In 2023, countries participating in the 76th World Health Assembly adopted a resolution to address unintentional drowning. In the last decade, more than 2.5 million lives have been lost worldwide. The World Health Organization will coordinate global efforts and promote cooperation among countries to address the problem. PAHO campaign emphasizes public health issue and highlights six interventions to prevent drowning. Check them out.

The VHL was presented during the MLA/SLA 2023

The Virtual Health Library, that completed 25 years in 2023, was presented in the 2023 Annual Conference of the Medical Library Association (MLA) held in collaboration with the Special Libraries Association (SLA) on topics on medical librarianship, like leadership and management. The event took place in Detroit, Michigan, on May 16-19 with hybrid participation. Sharing global health and equity projects, experiences, challenges, and successes from around the world was its focus.

World Hypertension Day 2023 “Measure your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer!”

Considering that cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, are the main cause of death in the Americas, PAHO created the HEARTS in the Americas Initiative, led by the Ministries of Health with the participation of local actors. The objective is to promote the adoption of global best practices in the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases and to improve the performance of services through better control of hypertension and promotion of secondary prevention with an emphasis on primary health care.
