Eliminating cervical cancer is the focus of World Cancer Day in the Americas
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world. An increase in the number of cancer cases is predicted for the upcoming years, due mainly to population rise and to longer life expectancy. Many types of cancer, however, could be prevented through awareness campaigns, education and lifestyle changes. This is one of the main objectives of World Cancer Day, celebrated on February 4. For this date in the Americas, PAHO/WHO has chosen to focus on cervical cancer prevention through vaccination, monitoring and early diagnosis and treatment.
