During the Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA), celebrated from April 23rd to 29th, 2023, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) joined forces with countries in the Region and their partners under the call to action “Get up-to-date #EachVaccineCounts”.
The objectives of the campaign included:
- Using VWA as a platform to revitalize national immunization programs, giving them prominence on the political agenda;
- Generating confidence in the safety and efficacy of all vaccines;
- Promoting greater acceptance and administration of vaccines at all ages;
- Recovering and maintaining regional goals for disease control and elimination; and
- Increasing efforts to maintain polio elimination in the Region and support global efforts towards its eradication.
The communication campaign undertaken by PAHO and Member States on the Organization’s portals, and intensively through social media, aims to create awareness about the potential of vaccines to protect citizens and their families, as well as the availability of vaccines to protect individuals at all stages of life, creating a barrier of protection against diseases that can be prevented by avoiding morbidity and mortality.
To launch the VWA 2023 and to present the current status of the Regional Immunization Program, PAHO organized a round table session with the participation of the Organization’s Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, leaders of government agencies, professional associations, civil society representatives, academia and other stakeholders.
