BIREME as part of PAHO/WHO team in Workday Rising 2018

BIREME was part of the group of PAHO officials who participated at Workday Rising 2018, the annual Workday user conference, the system used by the Pan American Sanitary Bureau Management Information System (PMIS). The event took place in Las Vegas, United States, on October 1-4, 2018. The team identified 12 key initiatives to improve and streamline the management of PMIS in various administrative processes that will be considered for implementation by the end of 2019.

BIREME attends the VI Jornadas del Personal del Sistema Nacional Integrado de Salud de Uruguay

With the objective of presenting the results obtained with the project “Knowledge Management in Human Resources in Health”, BIREME participated in the VI Jornadas del Personal del Sistema Nacional Integrado de Salud de Uruguay (VI Staff Days of the National Integrated Health System of Uruguay). The main results presented include the repository for scientific and technical production identified by the Network of Observatories in Human Resources in Health of Latin America and the Caribbean (LA&C), the search interface with scientific and technical literature on Human Resources in Health in the VHL and the web site, integrated to the Regional Observatory on Human Resources in Health, which promotes access to all of these products.

BIREME on the agenda of the PAHO/WHO 56th Directing Council

Health Ministers and other authorities of the countries of the Region of the Americas met in Washington D.C., U.S.A, from September 23 to 27, to participate in the 56th Session of the PAHO Directing Council and the 70th Session of the Regional Committee of WHO for the Americas. The objective was to define priorities in technical cooperation and collaboration among countries, as well as plans to address the great health challenges faced by the Region. BIREME was on the agenda with two main topics: (1) current situation of the Pan American Centers; and (2) substitution of three-member countries of its Advisory Committee

Strengthening national networks of information management: Paraguay

With the objective of strengthening health information management and updating the Virtual Health Library in Paraguay, a mission for cooperation and technical courses for librarians and members of the Red de Información en Salud de Paraguay (REDISAL – Paraguayan Health Information Network) took place, fostered by the PAHO/WHO Office in the country, the Instituto Nacional de Salud/Biblioteca Nacional de Salud (National Health Institute/National Health Library) and the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information.

BIREME at the 6th VHL Professional Health Education Meeting

The sixth edition of the Encontro da Biblioteca Virtual em Educação Profissional em Saúde (EPS VHL – Virtual Health Library on Professional Health Education Meeting), organized by the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, aimed to discuss the responsibilities of the Advisory and Executive Committees of the VHL-EPS, as well as to generate an exchange of research experiences among the Escolas Técnicas do Sistema Único de Saúde (ETSUS – Technical Schools of the Unified Health System) that compose the SUS Technical School Network (RET-SUS).

Expansion of the Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine Network in Cuba

The Virtual Health Library on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine Americas (VHL TCIM Americas) advances, within its editorial policies, projects oriented to share research experiences about TCIM in the Region, as well as methodologies to develop pedagogical tools for strengthening research capacities in TCIM in each country. The presence of the VHL TCIM and the TCIM Americas Network at the BIONAT 2018 Congress allowed participants to recognize the innovation and trajectory constructed by Cuba and other countries of the Region to produce high quality research in the different fields of this relevant and integrative health practice.

BIREME collaborates with research projects in the Field of Women’s Health

Women’s Health, a priority topic for all countries of the LA&C Region, is one of the topics of the 56th Directive Council and 70th Regional Committee Session of the WHO for the Americas, which took place in September 2018, through the Plan of Action for Women’s, Children’s  and Adolescents’ Health 2018-2030. BIREME collaborated in the search and evaluation of evidence for issues addressed in researches and syntheses of evidence developed during the master’s course “Women’s Health” of the Universidade Federal do Piauí in Teresina, PI, Brazil.

Latin American and Caribbean medical students promote health research

The Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME/PAHO/WHO), in its role of democratizing information, evidence and knowledge, and having as one of its main objectives the final user of the information, participated in two parallel events for medical students in Peru, through master conferences and courses on access to information.
